Nam Son Cave is the Most Beautiful Cave in Ngoc Son Ngo Luong Nature Reserve


Nam Son Cave, also known as Ton Cave by locals, is located in Ton hamlet, Van Son commune (old Nam Son commune), Tan Lac district, Hoa Binh province. This cave was accidentally discovered by locals in 2004.

From the center of Van Son commune to Ton hamlet, about 4km, from here visitors walk about 45 minutes along the trail through the bamboo forest, cliffs and hills leading to the mouth of Nam Son Cave. The entrance to the cave is small and narrow with a width of about 50cm and a height of more than 1m, but when you go inside you will see a completely separate world.
Nam Son cave in Van Son commune has a length of more than 400m, the cave is divided into 3 compartments with stone columns, stalagmites, stone curtains and stalactites with different spectacular shapes. The middle compartment is the widest compartment with a clear lake with a depth of up to 7m. The climate in the cave is always cool, the cave is protected as soon as it is discovered, so it is almost kept intact.

What to prepare when visiting Nam Son Cave?

To have an interesting and safe visit to Nam Son Cave, tourists should note the following issues:
  • Clothing: Walking shoes to prevent slipping, clothes suitable for the season, a windbreaker that can withstand light rain are also very suitable when going to the forest and entering caves.
  • Drinking water: 1 bottle of water per person.
  • Flashlight: You can bring or rent it at the water shop at the beginning of Ton hamlet.
  • Other essentials: Insect repellent spray, sunscreen, first aid kit to use when needed.
  • Permit to visit the cave: Contact Van Son Commune Committee to get a visit permit 1 day in advance, currently the visit fee is 500,000 VND/group visit. There will be 1 person from UB to lead guests into the cave.
  • Tour guide fee: 300,000 VND / 1 tour guide
Located in the ecosystem of the buffer forest area of ​​Cuc Phuong National Park and Ngoc Son - Ngo Luong Nature Reserve, Nam Son Cave was recognized as a national scenic relic in 2008. Tourists visiting Nam Son Cave are advised to uphold their responsibility to protect the environment, not to destroy the cave, not to leave plastic waste along the way, contributing to preserving the local landscape.
